Meta confirms offering its European users a new option of using less personalised ads if they are availing of its ad-free subscription.
Currently, the users have two options of either choosing the free version or the subscription one, now there will be a third option in the upcoming weeks. Due to the continent’s strict data privacy rules and the demands of the EU regulators, the new choice to use Facebook and Instagram for free with less personalized ads will become a suitable option for Facebook and Instagram users. Additionally, it will reduce the price of ad-free subscriptions by about 40% for European users.
Meta explained in its blog post, “Going forward, people based in the EU will still have the option to choose between subscribing for an ad-free experience or continuing to access our services for free. For those people who choose to continue using our services for free, they’ll now also be able to choose to see less personalized ads. In the less personalized option, we will use significantly less data to show ads, so ads may be less relevant to a person’s interests. However, we remain committed to personalized advertising, which will always be the cornerstone of a free and inclusive internet.”
